LandSafe Equestrian Clinic

November 2-4, 2018 - GA International Horse Park

Who is LandSafe and why join a clinic?

With rider safety at the forefront of everyone's mind, LandSafe is working to help reduce the risk of rider injury resulting from a fall.  A common challenge all riders face is the risk of injuries resulting from falls. Every ride can result in a fall, but certain scenarios introduce more risk than others.   LandSafe is a comprehensive training program teaching riders not only a better way to navigate a fall, but also by using these skills a rider may reduce chances of injury or prevent a fall all together.

FEI Research shows the risk of fall with injury ranges from 1 in every 250 starters for low impact falls to 1 in every 520 starters for serious injuries. The type of fall also correlates to the risk of injury or death.

The risk of having a serious injury is once every 55 falls.  A rotational fall, however, increases the risk to once every 5 falls.

LANDSAFE HAS 3 MAIN GOALS:
1. Save lives
2. Reduce injuries
3. Increase safety education of parents and riders

This is a USEA sponsored clinic!!! LandSafe received a USEA grant which allocated funds to all Areas to reduce USEA participant costs in LandSafe clinics!! Thank you to the USEA for making this rebate possible!

Simulator

LandSafe Equestrian simulator helps riders safely practice falling from a horse.

A machine that can help riders understand “that moment”.  That moment when gravity is no longer on your side and you must now deal with the ground. The most unfortunate part of riding is the old saying “if you're gonna ride your gonna fall”.

The customized simulator is the cornerstone of the program. This simulator recreates real-life fall scenarios at speeds to allow athletes to practice fall response techniques in a safe and repeatable environment.

Fall Techniques & Tumbling

LandSafe Equestrian gymnastics during a clinic session. Reduces risk during a rider fall.

Before any gymnast steps onto the beam or tumbles on the floor they receive training in fall techniques so they understand the proper placement of their body to prevent injuries. LandSafe leverages these same techniques and principles to teach riders specific fall and body placement techniques. This training helps riders to limit the chance of injury or death in a fall scenario.

Until now, a vital component has been absent that could make a difference in the outcome of a fall. That is rider education, regarding fall safety.

Clinic Options

Full 2-Day with Simulator

LandSafe simulator is used during Day 2 of the 2-Day clinic. Riders learn to fall safely.

DAY 1
Two hours of gymnastics skill building will start your day. Here you will learn the correct ways to shape, roll, position arms and wrists, balance, body awareness and the control needed to become competent in a dive roll.

The next two hours will be spent transferring these skills to the simulator.

DAY 2
We will revisit the basic gymnastics skills learned on day 1 and look for ways for you to develop stronger skills while working at home. The time spent is dependent on progress of skills, hoping to be 1 to 1.5 hours.

The second part of the day two session will be devoted to skills on the simulator, here we will also visit a variety of different types of fall scenarios.

This program is designed to teach the basic skills to improve your body awareness and self-preservation.
